Sóma on kreikkaa ja tarkoittaa kehoa. Nimensä mukaisesti Yläkulttuuri ry:n uusi minifestivaali Soma keskittyy kehoon ja kehollisuuteen. Se tarjoaa vastapainoa pääistyneelle elämäntavalle; kutsuu asettumaan kehoon ja kokemaan elämää kokonaisvaltaisesti. Luvassa on aistivoimainen ja kokemuksellinen elämys – tervetuloa! (:

Saavutettavuus

Alakulttuuritalo Kramsun sisätilat eivät valitettavasti ole vielä täysin saavutettavat. Pääoven edessä on raput. Sisällä pääovien jälkeen ei ole korkeita kynnyksiä. Kramsulla ei ole inva-wc:tä, mutta toisessa vessoista on käsinojallinen wc-istuin.

  • Pääoven portaiden korkeus on 82 cm. Askelmia on viisi 140 cm matkalla, jonka jälkeen on 120 cm pituinen tasainen alue ja sen jälkeen 6 cm korkea kynnys oven kohdalla.
  • Pääoven jälkeen kulman takaa löytyy ramppi, jonka kaltevuus on 15 astetta. Ramppi ei ole virallinen pyörätuoliramppi, mutta se helpottaa sisälle pääsyä.
  • Talossa on kaksi wc:tä, joista molempiin kuljetaan käytävällä olevasta ovesta. Isosalin viereisessä pinkissä vessassa käytävän oven leveys on 96 cm. Vessakopin oven leveys on 85 cm. Keittiötä lähempänä olevassa oranssissa vessassa on käsinojallinen wc-istuin. Käytävän oven leveys on 82 cm ja siinä on 2,5 cm kynnys. Vessakopin oven leveys on 89 cm.

Butoh-työpaja klo 10:30–12:30

Butoh (buto, butō) on japanilaissyntyinen nykytanssin, tanssitaiteen ja tanssiteatterin muoto, jossa on vaikutteita niin japanilaisesta kulttuuriperimästä kuin länsimaisesta taiteesta ja kulttuuristakin. Soma Festivaalin työpajassa lähestymme butoh-tanssia vakavan leikkisästi: ihmettelemme ja innoitumme kehosta sekä tutkimme sitä eri elementtien kautta.

Työpaja on suunnattu vähintään 15-vuotiaille. Voit osallistua, vaikka sinulla ei olisi aiempaa kokemusta butoh-tanssista. Ohjauskielinä ovat suomi ja englanti.

Satakielelle

Minimalistista livemusiikkia ja buto-tanssia yhdistävässä teoksessa liikutaan tummista sävyistä kirkkauteen. Liike ja musiikki erillisinä elementtinä luovat yhdessä matkan, jossa kivutaan maan synkistä syvyyksistä kohti auringonnousua.

Tanssija Enni Kilpeläistä puhuttelee buto-tanssissa liikkeen runollisuus; se, kuinka tanssin avulla voidaan kokea ja välittää jotakin syvää elämästä, kuolemasta ja ympäröivästä luonnosta. Kilpeläinen on harjoittanut butoa vuodesta 2022 lähtien mm. Anthoni Levonsaaren, Ken main ja Tashi Iwaokan opetuksessa.

Multi-instrumentalisti Ville Vapaamieli luo esitykseen sykähdyttävän arvoituksellisen äänimaiseman.

Hetki

Anthoni Levonsaaren ohjaama syventävä butoh-ryhmä on kevään ajan tutkinut uskallusta olla yksinkertainen ja katseen alle asettumista. Soma Festivaalilla nähtävä esitysluonnos kutsuu tilaan erään menneen, yhdessä koetun hetken. Teos on valmistunut koko ryhmän kesken, yhdessä tutkien ja kokeillen. Tällä kertaa esillä ovat Arja, Enni, Riikka ja Anthoni.

Frozen Between (2026)

Frozen Between on kehollinen videoteos jähmettymisestä, pelosta ja välitilaan jäämisestä. Talvisessa lumimaisemassa keho on kuin vangittuna avoimeen tilaan, kunnes jokin – vaisto, himo tai tieto paremmasta – pakottaa liikkeelle kylmän läpi. Teos liikkuu haurauden ja voiman, pysähtymisen ja pakenemisen, lumen hiljaisuuden ja sisäisen äänen välissä.

Shymuru tutkii kehollisuutta, muistia ja liikettä sisäisten maisemien ilmaisuna. Häntä kiinnostaa kehon tapa muistaa ja kertoa eletystä elämästä, tunteista ja tiedostamattomista kerroksista. In the cave (2026)

In the cave on lyhyt videoteos irtipäästämisen kynnykseltä. Se tarkastelee hetkeä, jossa menneisyys on jo alkanut irrottaa otettaan, mutta vapaus tuntuu vielä vieraalta. Suru, häpeä ja tottumus sitovat tuttuun vankilaan – kunnes jokin elävä alkaa hengittää uudelleen.

Veiled in Shadows (2025)

Trypanonin Veiled in Shadows -musiikkivideo tutkii ihmisyyden haipumista. Teoksessa metallimusiikki, butoh ja voimakkaat visuaaliset elementit yhdistyvät. Ensiesitys oli Oslossa 14.6.2025 kansainvälisellä Ravenheart International Film Festivalilla.

One With Emptiness (2020)

”Kun katsomme ja kuuntelemme asioita sellaisenaan ilman, että pyrimme koko ajan muuttelemaan olevaa, asiat ovat kuten ovat, yhtä tyhjän kanssa.”

One With Emptiness (Yhtä tyhjän kanssa) on teos, jonka tein sen jälkeen, kun opiskelijakommuunimme tuhoutui tulipalossa marraskuussa 2019. Se ei ole teos tulipalosta, vaan tilasta sen jälkeen: siitä hetkestä, kun varsinainen katastrofi on jo ohi, mutta keho ja mieli ovat jääneet siihen kiinni. Teos syntyi tarpeesta pysähtyä sellaisten tunteiden äärelle, joita oli vaikea käsitellä ja vielä vaikeampi ilmaista.

One With Emptiness on performanssi kameralle, hyvin hiljainen ja hidas sellainen. Se kuvaa hetkeä, jossa taiteilijuus ei ole tekemistä vaan olemisen sietämistä: tilaa, jossa ei vielä ole sanoja, mutta on keho, joka yrittää löytää tien takaisin maailmaan.

Kamarikuoro Cantinovum – Johtaa Rita Varonen

On the Threshold of Winter In a Lakeside Sauna on entisen Cantinovumin jäsenen, Matti Kortetin sanoittama ja Pascal Martinén säveltämä eteerisen kaunis kuvaus suomalaisen saunan tunnelmasta vuodenaikojen vaihtumisen kynnyksellä.

Musiikkivideo on Cantinovumin historiassa ensimmäinen lajiaan, ja sen on ohjannut, kuvannut ja editoinut ukrainalaislähtöinen Olex Smith. Videon tuottajana on toiminut Enni Kilpeläinen ja toisena kuvaajana Anssi Hyvärinen. Musiikin on äänittänyt Pro Audile ja tanssijoina videolla nähdään Oleg Kambur ja Enni Kilpeläinen.

Yhteistyössä Jyväskylän Ammattikorkeakoulu JAMK.

Shamanviolin (Tuomas Rounakari) klo 15:30–16:15

Tuomas Rounakari on kansainvälisesti tunnettu viulisti, säveltäjä ja etnomusikologi. Hänet tunnetaan soolourastaan Shamaaniviulistina, teatteriproduktioista ja Korpiklaani-yhtyeestä (2012–2022). Sooloesiintymisissään hän yhdistää viulun, laulun ja nilkkakellojen poljennon ainutlaatuiseksi kokonaisuudeksi. Hänen taiteensa ytimessä on musiikin kautta saavutettujen transsitilojen tutkimus.

Rounakari on julkaissut kaksi sooloalbumia sekä yli 30 levyä eri kokoonpanoissa. Hänen musiikkinsa liikkuu kansanmusiikin, metallin, rockin, bluesin, free jazzin ja kokeellisen elektroakustisen musiikin rajapinnoilla. Hän on myös ollut keskeinen hahmo suomalaisen itkuvirsiperinteen elvyttämisessä, oppien sen karjalaiselta Martta Kuikalta ja välittäen perinnettä eteenpäin työpajoissa, surupiireissä ja seremonioissa jo yli kahden vuosikymmenen ajan.

Frostlaken musiikillinen maailma syntyy pieniliikkeisen, pitkän kaaren dramaturgian kautta. Matalataajuiset äänet ja intervallien värähtelyt yhdistyvät rytmien kudelmaan, jota polkimien, palkeiden ja koskettimien kolinat sävyttävät. Musiikin matalimmat taajuudet ovat harmoniassa hyvinvointia lisäävien taajuuksien kanssa.

Accessibility

Unfortunately, the interior of the Alakulttuuritalo Kramsu is not yet fully accessible. There are stairs in front of the main door. Inside, after the main doors, there are no high thresholds. Kramsu does not have a disabled toilet, but one of the toilets has a toilet seat with armrests.

  • The height of the stairs at the main door is 82 cm. There are five steps along a distance of 140 cm, followed by a flat area of 120 cm and then a 6 cm high threshold at the door.
  • After the main door, there is a ramp around the corner with a slope of 15 degrees. The ramp is not an official wheelchair ramp, but it makes it easier to get inside.
  • The house has two toilets, both of which can be accessed through a door in the hallway. The width of the corridor door in the pink toilet next to Isosali hall is 96 cm. The width of the toilet cubicle door is 85 cm. The orange toilet closer to the kitchen has a toilet seat with armrests. The width of the corridor door is 82 cm and it has a threshold of 2.5 cm. The width of the toilet cubicle door is 89 cm.

Butoh workshop at 10:30–12:30

Butoh (buto, butō) is a Japanese-born form of contemporary dance, dance and dance theatre that is influenced by Japanese cultural heritage as well as Western art and culture. In the Soma Festival workshop, we will approach butoh dance in a seriously playful way: we will wonder and be inspired by the body and explore it through different elements.

The workshop is aimed at people aged 15 and over. You can participate even if you have no previous experience in butoh dance. The languages of instruction are Finnish and English.

Satakielelle (For the Nightingale)

The piece, which combines minimalist live music and butoh dance, moves from dark tones to brightness. Movement and music as separate elements together create a journey that climbs from the dark depths of the earth towards the sunrise.

Dancer Enni Kilpeläinen is fascinated by the poetic nature of movement in butoh dance; how dance can be used to experience and convey something deep about life, death and the surrounding nature. Kilpeläinen has been practicing butoh since 2022 with teachers Anthoni Levonsaari, Ken mai and Tashi Iwaoka, among others.

Multi-instrumentalist Ville Vapaamieli creates a thrillingly enigmatic soundscape for the performance.

Hetki (A Moment)

The advanced butoh group led by Anthoni Levonsaari has spent the spring exploring the courage to be simple and how to be under the gaze. The performance draft at the Soma Festival invites a past moment to the space; something which has already been experienced. The piece has been created by the whole group, exploring and experimenting together. This time, Arja, Enni, Riikka and Anthoni are on stage.

Frozen Between (2026)

Frozen Between is an embodied video work about freezing, fear, and being caught in an in-between state. In a wintery snow-covered landscape, the body seems imprisoned in an open space, until something — instinct, desire, or the knowledge of something better — forces it to move through the cold. The work moves between fragility and strength, stillness and escape, the silence of snow and an inner voice.

Shymuru explores embodiment, memory, and movement as expressions of inner landscapes. She is interested in the body’s way of remembering and telling of lived life, emotions, and unconscious layers without excessive guidance from the mind. In Shymuru’s practice, movement, intuitive painting, and writing move alongside one another. Shymuru – The body remembers what the mind cannot.

A Breath Between Two Emptinesses (2022)

Sprouting time, the bud of the moment, the minute blooming. The blink of an eye disappears, fragile, and overflows.

The video work of Katveenkuuntelijat is an eternity in one moment. Katveenkuulatjat is an artist couple who search, create and offer places of beauty, both in time and space.

In the Cave is a short video work from the threshold of letting go. It examines a moment in which the past has already begun to loosen its grip, but freedom still feels unfamiliar. Grief, shame, and habit bind the body to a familiar prison — until something alive begins to breathe again.

Veiled in Shadows (2025)

The Veiled in Shadows music video explores the dissolution of humanity. The piece combines metal music, butoh and strong visual elements. The premiere was in Oslo on June 14, 2025 at the international Ravenheart International Film Festival.

One With Emptiness (2020)

”When we look at and listen to things as they are, without constantly trying to change what is, things are as they are, equal to nothing.”

One With Emptiness is a work I created after our student commune was destroyed in a fire in November 2019. It is not a work about a fire, but about the state after it: from the moment when the actual disaster is already over, but the body and mind are stuck in it. The work was born out of the need to stop and think about emotions that were difficult to process and even more difficult to express.

One With Emptiness is a performance for the camera, a very quiet and slow one. It depicts a moment where being an artist is not about doing, but about tolerating being: a space where there are no words yet, but there is a body that is trying to find its way back to the world.

On the Threshold of Winter In a Lakeside Sauna (2024)

Chamber Choir Cantinovum – Conducted by Rita Varonen

On the Threshold of Winter In a Lakeside Sauna is an ethereally beautiful depiction of the Finnish sauna in the transitioning seasons, with lyrics written by a former Cantinovum member Matti Kortet that were arranged for mixed choir by Pascal Martiné.

The music video is the first of it’s kind in the long history of Cantinovum, and it was directed, edited and shot by Olex Smith from ALM Studios with Anssi Hyvärinen as the second camera handler. The music was recorded by Pro Audile, and the video was produced by Enni Kilpeläinen, whom is also seen in the dancing scenes with Oleg Kambur.

Shamanviolin (Tuomas Rounakari) at 15:30–16:15

Tuomas Rounakari is an internationally renowned violinist, composer and ethnomusicologist. He is known for his solo career as a shaman violinist, theatre productions and the Korpiklaani band (2012–2022). In his solo performances, he combines violin, vocals and the rhythm of ankle bells into a distinctive performance style. At the core of her art is the study of trance states achieved through music.

Rounakari has released two solo albums and more than 30 albums with different ensembles. His music moves on the interfaces of folk music, metal, rock, blues, free jazz and experimental electroacoustic music. He has also been a key figure in reviving the Finnish lament tradition, learning it from the Karelian Martta Kuikka and passing on the tradition in workshops, mourning circles and ceremonies for more than two decades.

Frostlake at 16:30–17:15

Frostlake’s musical world is created through small-scale, long-arc dramaturgy. Low-frequency sounds and interval vibrations are combined into a tapestry of rhythms, coloured by the clatter of pedals, bellows and keyboards.
